Mother’s Day Pt 1

DIY Ready

Mother’s Day is a holiday honoring motherhood. It became an official U.S. holiday in 1914. I will admit to you that even though Mother’s Day regularly falls on the second Sunday in May I forgot that Mother’s Day was this coming weekend until yesterday! I think my brain was still on vacation.

Simple As That

Being a mother is the hardest thing I have ever done. Before being a mom, I worked 3 jobs and still felt energized. Giving birth and raising a tiny human took me to a whole new lever of exhaustion I didn’t knew existed. HOWEVER, I love being a mother to my son and look forward to the day when our family continues to grow. I would do anything to ensure my son grows up safe and healthy. Even so, I still remember my anxiety as if it were yesterday when I was holding him while he slept in my arms, barely a week old and the realization hit that my life will never be the same. No longer would I be able to just go and do what I want unless he comes with me or I find a suitable caretaker while I am away. I was crying so hard I was starting to hyperventilate. Luckily, I was and am continuously surrounded by a wonderful support system of my own mother, mother-in-law, step mom, sisters, and sister-in-law. These ladies are always willing to offer advice, calm my over-stressed mind to keep things in perspective, and just be there to lend an open ear and heart.

In the United States, Mother’s Day is celebrated by presenting soon-to-be and current mothers with gifts and flowers, and has become one of the biggest holidays for consumer spending. A personal favorite gift (and free) idea is when families celebrate by giving mothers a day off from activities like cooking or other household chores. (hint, hint to anyone looking for ideas!)

With that in mind, my next post will be dedicated to cute, fun, and heartwarming Mother’s Day ideas that will not break the bank.
